Mr VdH was building a Crimson cartridge in the video. I used this cartridge for a few years and it went through three re-builds at the VdH factory. Great sounding while it was working. Fast and dynamic while at the same time sweet. This video explains why it kept on breaking down. Held together by drops of glue. No wonder the parts kept falling off in our hot and humid weather.
The rebuilds did not cost me much compared to the cost of a new cartridge. However the cartridge could only be sent back to the factory through the local agent. It was a hassle. Now this piece is part of my museum of past cartridges. My lesson learned from the experience of owning this and other one-man maker cartridges is to avoid them. I now only buy makes that guarantees reasonably priced rebuilds by a team. And not one man.
