  • My eyes have seen the light.

The light is called the Christie M 4K25 RGB

So I keep thinking the Sony looks plenty sharp

I’ve just been to a Hi-Fi show in Melbourne this week and the distributor has a demo of the Christie in a properly set up room.

It’s getting 200 nits on 230” screen. And fed with a Lumagen.

And my word - that’s what sharp looks like.

    230” compared to my 120”

    And that brightness. Oof

So this is how the 1% lives

And here we are arguing about the minuscule differences between the Sony and the JVC.

The head office is actually about 30 min drive from home. The Storm Audio 9.4.6 with active digital crossover speakers is bloody amazing.

    But that picture quality tho.

They were using the high contrast lens I think.

  • So I got back last night and got around to unwrapping my copy of No Time To Die on UHD that the Christie demo was using.

The last time I watched it was via 4K HDR streaming so I wasn’t comparing like for like.

With the UHD disc, my old Sony was still quite respectable at 120” from about 4m away. But the Christie still felt incredibly sharp with a 230” scope screen with anamorphic lens from about 7m away.

The audio from the AVM90 was good but didn’t feel as cohesive.

Spent today running Genesis ARC and that improved the EQ but took maybe a few steps back. The crossover was set to 120-140Hz for the mains even though they are capable of more. Didn’t seem like the levels were adjusted correctly. And the distances were definitely out.

I set the crossover back to 80Hz and that seemed to improve. Just did a levels test and it feels like the front was running hotter than the surrounds and subs. The sub was running 10dB lower than it should. But that could be because I enabled a second sub output - and it was connected to my Crowson transducers.

Used the SPL app on the phone to dial it in earlier and I can get the thump back.

Also just took out the tape measure and corrected the distance. But it’s already late. So I’ll test it tomorrow.
