  • If you aren't interested in the upgrading game, you buy flagship.

Denon seems to respect their flagship customers.  Like the Denon AVP-A1HD, which was Denon flagship processor, they provide upgrade HDMI board to their customers to extend the life of their AVP.  Since then, there weren't any AVP because I think they realized that with 13 channels, it is better to do it with an integrated AVR, which actually fall in line with what I thought.

So now, with the Denon X8500H, introduced 4 years ago, they are now extending the life of their flagship with the HDMI board upgrade.  A110 is meant for people who did not own the X8500H, who have money that need to be spend.   So they celebrate their 110th Anniversary with you and provide you the best AVR they have ever build in their history.

And they continue to respect their flagship customers.....your upgraded X8500HA is just as good as the A110.

Please understand it is not easy to provide upgrades.  You need to keep the board mounting points consistent.  You need to relabel the connectors....you need to actually design the product with upgrade intentions from the very start....that's a lot of work and that is why very few companies ever provide upgrades.

  • Still waiting for my HDMI board to arrive in SIN.  Usual excuse, world's semiconductor parts storage.
