Hi Folks,
I am looking to rip my collection of 4k bluray discs to an external hard disk from my window based desktop. Can anyone recommend a good and reliable external bluray burner/ripper and a external hard disk that you are currently using that can be bought locally? I currently watch 4k movies with my bluray player and also stream Netflix and Disney+ movies via my OLED TV and AVR. I am also exploring getting a media player to watch the ripped 4k movie files (if i am able to rip my physical 4k bluray discs collection successfully). Please feel free to PM me if it's not convenient to mention the brand and make here.
Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
The recommended software for ripping the 4K Blu Ray is DVDFab All-In-One. Take the lifetime version. Normally they run a discount and it about US$200+ for a 6-PC install option.
The Blu Ray drive to go with this would be the LG WH16NS60 which is also recommended by DVDfab. Expect to pay about $100-$200 (SGD) for it. I got mine from Amazon. You cannot use any other 4K Blu Ray drives other than those recommended by DVDFab.
You should do a "Clone" or a "Full-Disc copy" into a ISO file for completeness. One file contains the entire disc image and when you playback with a good media player, it would feel from you are playing it from the disc.
I recommend you to use a NAS instead of a external drive. One terabyte could only holds about 15-18 4K UHD movies. An 8-bay NAS with 10TB drives would be a good start. A NAS is preferred as the movies could stream anywhere in your network and updating the files would be simple.
I have been using Zidoo Media Player. You can get one for as little <$300 or go for the flagship one at about $4.2K.
