  • Just for fun, I just did AB test comparing my Lab12 Dac1 Reference with EVGA Nu Audio Pro in my desktop. Both of them connected to my Sony amp and Cabasse speakers. Not a fair comparison price wise, $4300 SGD vs $350 SGD, but hey, got many people believe cheap few hundred dollars DACs are all you need.

I think for colors the main deciding factor is the speakers themselves. The DAC might only be able to change the color just subtly. I heard no difference in color between my EVGA and Lab12. I remembered my Musician Pegasus just very slightly brighter.

But in terms of realizing the transients, these are where the two DACs really show their differences. On the EVGA a lot of transients were not reproduced. Piano and violin sound missing a lot of "weight". Solo violin sound like something produced out of synthesizer instead. When listening to more exciting tracks, the lack of transients translate to overall less energetic experience. But I do have to concur that if the EVGA still sounded very good and if I had not heard better setups I might be quite happy with it.
