Cable talk talk

Came across this old article…. didn’t know they used cheaterbug marketing tactics…

Again, the audio clips in the video had differences of 8dB between the generic and "Chocolate" cables between 4kHz-17kHz according to Mark Weldrep's measurements. Again we must reiterate an HDMI cable alone CANNOT be responsible for a level difference!

AudioQuest has a long history of using psychological trickery in their demos. We've documented these practices in their Boombox Demo, shed light on their questionable science, and given them ample room on our website to make their argument for trusting your ears over test equipment. That said, going beyond simple bias and suggestion to the point of actually manipulating demos to give the preferred results is not something we've seen AudioQuest do before, and if we had, we certainly would have told you in our pursuit of truth in Audio and Video.

Ah, no. When we had our retail operations, cable companies would constantly visit us. Their first sentence on why we should carry their line? "We give you 65% margin!" I have had detailed discussions with cable companies at audio shows with my "dealer hat" on, discussing bling factors of cables and what sells and what doesn't on that front.

and…

Take the usual passive loudspeaker–amplifier connection. At its simplest, it comprises a pair of insulated wires a few meters long of moderate—say, half an ohm—loop resistance, readily capable of carrying up to 25A or so of peak current. If our notional amplifier has an output resistance of 0.1 ohm, which is typical, the total resistance presented to the loudspeaker is then about 0.6 ohm.
Wow, 0.5ohm loop resistance, what sort of crap speaker cable is that?
