Class A, AB , D or other

Do you have a preference for the class of amplifier?

Nowadays, many of the designs are of the sliding bias type. For the first few watts, the amp operates in class A. Then it slides the biasing into AB for higher power.

Which type of amp are you using?

A+AB.

Most of the time in AB mode so that it runs cooler & no need to switch on aircond.

Switch to A only when listening intently or when drawn into the music/songs...or demoing...

And I always leave my system switched on all the time ( including tube ) , but I'm getting more poorer with age,  so now AB.

Now I am on cool running pre/power. No need air-con unless to keep the sound in and not disturb family or neighbours. Only my phono sounds best warm with an overnight warm up.

Previous power amp needed 5 hours to warm up and ran warm. The tube pre was one heat producer that made it impossible to listen without air-con.

I think I am doing my bit to reduce carbon emissions

Thank you for your efforts.  :D Reduce your room of few degrees is not going to offset a few hundreds new aircraft burning tons of fuel at 700 degree C inside the engines' combustion cambers.

Back to Power Amp class of operation.

Ultimately, any class of power amp you seek to buy, your decision should be based on the listening test.

There are far too many variables that can alter the sound characteristic of a power amplifier, class of operation should not be the determining factor.

As long as you don't place your tube amp next to subwoofer or to be precise next to source of vibration like in review ;D

Don't ask me why ;D
But if you really insist and will kill me if I didn't answer, my answer is because I said so 8)

SPL Performer s1200 Power Amplifier | REVIEW

Code:
?The 120V technology is our reference technology. The 120V technology is unique in the world. It operates at a DC voltage of 120 volts. This is four times that of IC-based semiconductor op-amps. In our Professional Fidelity series, we refer to this unsurpassed technology as VOLTAiR technology.

?The 120V technology works with +/-60 V. To be able to handle such a high voltage, we have developed special proprietary operational amplifiers that can operate with a DC voltage of +/-60 V: the SPL 120V SUPRA operational amplifiers. This high voltage would destroy conventional components and operational amplifiers.

?By the way, the ?120V? in the name of the technology has nothing to do with the local mains voltage from the mains power socket. This is about the operating voltage inside the device with which the audio signals are processed. The mains voltage from the mains power socket is transformed to the required secondary voltage in the device?s internal linear power supply with toroidal transformer. Rectifiers convert this AC voltage into DC voltage required in the audio device.?

Whaaaaaa 60v rail ;D
