Just furnish the room...and reverb time will naturally come down...

And some wisdom about EQ...

EQ can't do crap about nulls. Putting more energy into a null just makes it deeper.

EQ can help reduce the level of a modal peak, but cannot do anything about its ringing.

About room reflections, room reverb, and how our ear-brain adapts to the room environment…

Have you noticed how your loved one's voices don't change as you listen to them in different rooms in your home? Reflections are changing but adaptation makes sure that we mostly hear the direct sound.

So therein lies the conundrum, to fully treat the room, or not to treat the room, or lightly treat the room? Hmm 🤔

Is it because you filter out most of the words? 🤣

Make the room rather quiet but not dead sounding

Wise words..

"You can't reproduce this [studio] environment in a listening room at home, with tons of ER, room decay etc. These studios cost a lot of money too, and only make sense as a tool for professionals that need to work fast and to high quality standards. For them, the investment is recovered in a handful of years.

In a listening room environment at home you can find a compromise whose 'color' suits you and allows you to listen to your favorite music comfortably. It won't be reproduced exactly as intended, and quite a few elements in the recording will likely be masked. In these cases you listen as much to the speakers as you listen to the room.

But then, is it really a problem, as long as you enjoy the music?"...
