Zidoo UHD 8000 8K Media Player

Bought this player, last week in Hong Kong, during my visit to the the Hong Kong 2024 AV Show. Comes in double cardboard shipping package. This unit is from the first production batch with a shipping date of 24 July 2024 printed on the shipping label.

This new Zidoo flagship media player used the new Amlogic S928X SoC chip. ESS9069 is used for the Stereo Audio DAC. I read somewhere that with this implementation, the Zidoo team will be in control with the firmware from now on. Let hope that they would be more successful in this aspect.


The front panel looks impressive. The concave grooves is a good departure from the plain looks of pervious models.


Rear panel looks very much the same as previous models.


Remote control backlights are now illuminated by moving the remote control. Backlight button is noq place at the lower right corner as it should.


First time you get rack mounts for your media player. This is truly pro stuff.

Neat looking with lots of space allocated to the HDD bays. Dedicated HDD power supply located at the Bottom Left corner.

I declared when I carry this across Customs, they charged me about SGD$107. I believe EconAV is selling this at $2,059. So, the overall pricing is pretty close, with warranty from EconAV. The only advantage getting it from Hong Kong is purely availability.

My friend just ordered one and was given a delivery date of Sep 2024.

I was happy to find out that Apple Music App is included. But starting with the Apple's Term and condition page, I find it frustrating to navigate to "Agree" with the T&C. After struggling with the registration and signing in, I found that it is impossible to use this app.

Although I could sometimes get something to highlight in the header and footer taskbars, everything in between the page are not highlighted. When you click "OK", you never know what you have selected.

I am pleased to say that "random" Dolby Atmos music can be played from the Apple Music App, the firmware need to find a fix for the "highlighting selection during navigation".

kind of pity that Zidoo till today, don't design a media player like this, come with a Blue-Ray drive bracket to accommodate a physical disc reader. such that we can convert this as a physical disc player...

I did a test with a USB UHD Blu Ray drive. Nope, it didn't work. I guess the firmware is not ready for this.

One of the biggest improvement with this new series of Zidoo player is the startup of a ISO file to display the Blu Ray Menu.
Pervious models could only managed to do this like 20% of the ISO files, whereas this new player could successfully launch the ISO file and go straightaway into the Blu Ray menu for selection. I am getting about 60-70% success, launching like Maverick Top Gun (first time I seen the menu) and all the DTS demo discs.

Just received my Zidoo UHD8000 8K Media Player yesterday.
Yahoo!!! At last my Sony TV, 85Z9K 8K resolution tv can be utilized for 8K playback.
Connected the Zidoo to the Sony's HDMI Input number 4, as that's the only HDMI Port that's capable for 8K input.

but be wary that once you update to a "Google Playstore Version Firmware" you can never go back to the "Original Zidoo Default Firmware.
